SOUTH AFRICA – The “major” season in golf has arrived. The LPGA Tour’s first major of the year, the 2016 Ana Inspiration, ended in dramatic fashion Sunday at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Lydia Ko etched her name into the record books once again hitting a clutch shot to within a foot on the 18th hole to make birdie and win her second major championship title on the LPGA Tour.
Ariya Jutanugarn, who appeared to have locked up the victory with three holes to play, bogeyed her final three holes to finish fourth at 10-under par. When interviewed after the tournament about what happened, Jutanugarn explained, “I got a little nervous and didn’t commit to the shot.” Veteran TV broadcaster, LPGA Champion and World Golf Hall of Famer, Judy Rankin observed that Jutanugarn had “totally lost her rhythm.”
