Northern California PGA Set To Host Inaugural Teaching Competition

April 14, 2016

SAN JOSE, Calif. – PGA Professionals and amateurs from all over Northern California will gather at Coyote Creek Golf Club in San Jose on Sunday, April 17, 2016 for the inaugural Teaching Competition. The event, designed to grow the game of golf through networking and teaching, pairs amateurs with a NCGA handicap and PGA Teaching Professionals through a blind draw. There will also be a silent auction after the competition to benefit the NCPGA Foundation and support programs like PGA HOPE.

Sixty student/teacher duos will work together for a 1.5 hour private coaching session, followed by an 18-hole stroke play competition in this unique format. Instructors may use any and all training aids to help their students during the lesson, and the amateurs will then receive coaching from their assigned Professionals throughout the competition. The student with the lowest net score at the end of the competition wins an award for themselves and for their coach.

“We’re very proud to host this inaugural event and expanding our instruction in this manner,” says Chris Thomas, Executive Director and COO of the Northern California PGA, “Events like this competition are exactly how PGA of America strives to grow the game.” he added. The NCPGA Teaching Competition is proudly presented by GolfTec and supported by contributions from Cleveland Golf, Game Golf, Beshoff Mercedes, Orange Whip, and Bridgestone Golf.
