Cordillera Ranch Completes Updates Of Golf Course Bunkers

Better Billy Bunker Method, ‘Bunker White’ Sand Now Featured on Jack Nicklaus Signature Course

(BOERNE, Texas) – Cordillera Ranch – the premier luxury community in the scenic Texas Hill Country – has completed bunker updates on its Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course.

The project began last November and cost in excess of $700,000. First, more than 1,950 tons of sand were removed from the course’s 82 bunkers. The Better Billy Bunker Method – which uses a two-inch gravel drainage layer over a polymer-sprayed subgrade to bind the gravel together – was then installed. Finally, special “Bunker White” sand was imported from California and added to 100,000-plus square feet of newly-treated bunkers.

One of the greatest benefits of the bunker upgrade is it will minimize erosion during normal rainfalls. This makes them ready for play more quickly than a traditional mat bunker liner with sand. It also helps reduce long-term maintenance for Director of Agronomy Mark Semm and his staff.

“Cordillera Ranch is committed to maintaining a top-rated golf course and facilities,” says Charlie Hill, President and Chief Operating Officer for DH Investments, developer of Cordillera Ranch. “The bunker upgrade not only will strengthen the playability of the golf course, but also enhance its beautiful landscape.”

The bunker update marks a highlight moment for the golf course as it celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2016. Next month, Cordillera Ranch will be the site of the Texas Golf Association’s Four-Ball Championship, a prestigious amateur event featuring many of the state’s best players. The tournament will be one of the first opportunities for highly-ranked players to test Cordillera Ranch’s updated hazards.

Set on pristine land in the Texas Hill Country, the Cordillera Ranch layout meanders through valleys and oak-covered terrain. Many holes offer views of the Guadalupe River Valley and feature strategic bunkering, craggy limestone canyons and thought-provoking risk-reward shots.

The Dallas Morning News’ Texas Golf rankings tabbed the Nicklaus Signature layout a top-5 golf course in 2015. Its signature hole, the par-3 16th, was also named one of the best and most beautiful golf holes in the same rankings.

Earlier this year, Cordillera Ranch added top-100 teacher Bryan Gathright to its golf instruction staff. Gathright will team with Director of Instruction Gevin Allen and Golf Fitness Instructor Ann-Kristin Allen to enrich the club’s teaching program. The partnership pairs Gathright’s proven instructional principles with the Allens’ highly-certified golf fitness program, and their combined areas of expertise will strengthen the club’s junior golf platforms.

The Golf Club is one seven resort-style clubs at Cordillera Ranch, along with The Social Club, The Tennis and Swim Club, The Equestrian Club, The Rod and Gun Club, The Spa and Athletic Club and The River Club. Perched high atop one of the many breathtaking hills found in the community, the 40,000 square-foot clubhouse is the social heart of the property, and features member dining facilities, a full fitness center, in-house spa, locker rooms, special event rooms, member lounge, four outdoor pools and golf shop.

Considered one of the most desirable Hill Country addresses, Cordillera Ranch continues to grow at a rapid pace. It recently unveiled its newest neighborhood – The Springs of Cordillera Ranch – combining modern amenities with a traditional Texas Hill Country setting. Community honors continue to roll in as well, as Where to Retire Magazine named Cordillera Ranch one of the “50 Best Master-Planned Communities in the U.S.”

About Cordillera Ranch

Cordillera Ranch is an 8,700-acre master-planned residential community located north of San Antonio in the Texas Hill Country. It offers residents on-site recreational activities and boasts 0.25-acre villas, one- to 10-plus acre estates, including valley view, golf course, Guadalupe River frontage and hilltop home sites.

Residents of the gated community can join The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch, featuring seven resort-style clubs in one location – The Golf Club, The Social Club, The Tennis and Swim Club, The Equestrian Club, The Rod and Gun Club, The Spa and Athletic Club and The River Club. Cordillera Ranch is undertaken by Cordillera Ranch Development Corp., a subsidiary of Texas-based DH Investment Company.

For families with school-aged kids, the community is situated in the prestigious Boerne Independent School District. Newsweek recently ranked both Boerne ISD high schools among the top 3 percent in the country. Also, an education analysis group listed five Boerne ISD elementary schools among the eight best in the San Antonio area, including the top four spots.

And then there’s San Antonio – recently ranked 10th in the Milken Institute’s “Best Performing Cities” list, which evaluates small and large cities by tracking job growth, wage and salary growth, and the size and concentration of high tech industry. Forbes also listed the Alamo City as one of “America’s cities for the future” based on research of metropolitan areas exceeding 1 million residents that will most likely boom over the next 10 years.
