ORLANDO, Fla. (April 18, 2016) – Golfweek is bringing its annual Father & Son Open to Streamsong Resort Golf & Spa in Streamsong, Florida, this Father’s Day weekend (June 17-19). For more than three decades, this special event has been inviting players to experience three days jam-packed with timeless tradition and friendly competition.
“The Father & Son Open is always one of my favorite events of the year,” said Director of Events Armand Cimaroli. “It’s different than any other tournament we do – completely centered around fun, family and celebration – and that really makes it unique.”
The 2016 Golfweek Father & Son Open – which is open to amateurs and professional golfers of all ages – features a two-man, 36-hole Modified Chapman format and will be played on Streamsong’s Red and Blue Courses. The field will be divided into flights, with prizes awarded to the top teams in each flight.
Throughout the weekend, participants will also get to enjoy an opening night shootout, tee gifts, the Father of the Year luncheon and an awards luncheon.
As a key component of the tournament, Golfweek will also present its 2016 Father of the Year award, an annual honor recognizing a father who has made a notable impact on the game. This year’s award recipient is South African native Johan Immelman, who was former Commissioner of the Sunshine Tour and previous board member of the Canadian Tour. He also founded “Golf 9/12,” a program that invites participants all over the world to tee it up at their local course on Sept. 12 each year to honor the unity that prevailed after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Golf is a family affair for the Immelmans, with Johan’s two sons being heavily involved in the game as well. Youngest son Trevor – 2008 Masters champion – has 11 professional victories, represented the international side in two Presidents Cups and is a former U.S. Amateur Public Links champion. Mark, Johan’s oldest son, is the golf coach at Columbus State University and instructor at Bull Creek Golf Course in Georgia. He is also a PGA Tour commentator on the Sirius/XM PGA Tour Network where he hosts a weekly show called, “On the Mark.”
Space for the Golfweek Father & Son Open is limited, and slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Visit GolfweekEvents.com for full event details and to register today.
