PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (May 1, 2016) – The official U.S. Open poster, painted by artist-and Philadelphia native-Lee Wybranski, is now for sale and featured as Product of the Month in May on the award-winning GolfTalk Live radio show.
For the ninth straight year, artist Lee Wybranski was commissioned by the USGA to paint the official poster for their biggest title, the U.S. Open Championship. The U.S. Open is being held at Oakmont CC near Pittsburgh, PA, and this year’s poster features a distant view of the storied clubhouse from the famous Church Pews bunker. The dramatic design of the golf course is highlighted in Wybranski’s piece, while showcasing the newly expansive vistas.
“Oakmont used to have such an old and penal look,” Wybranski said. “Now that the club has removed so many trees, it feels like a course transplanted from Scotland. You can see across the entire landscape. That appealed to me because not only was it different, but it allowed me to incorporate both the Church Pews and the clubhouse into the painting.”
While the U.S. Open is always one of the most well-attended and viewed professional golf events in the world, this will be a record ninth time the USGA has chosen Oakmont as the venue. For Wybranski-as official artist of U.S. Open posters since 2008-this is his second work from the event in his home state of Pennsylvania, the other being the 2013 poster from Merion GC.
“It is a pleasure to honor a native Pennsylvanian for his work in our golf-rich state of Pennsylvania,” said Tony Leodora, host of GolfTalk Live. “He has a history of bringing the U.S. Open to life in his paintings and the rendition from Oakmont is one of his best.”
The 2016 official U.S. Open poster from Oakmont signed by Wybranski is available for sale at www.LeeWybranski.com in two sizes: 12 x 18 for $30, and 24 x 36 for $50. It will also be highlighted with a high-resolution picture and description during the entire month of May on www.golftalklive.net
