The fire took place on Saturday, April 30th shortly after 9:00pm at the Edwin Watts Golf Shop located at 8500 Pineville-Matthews Road. Fire fighters from both Pineville and Charlotte were dispatched to combat what would be a three-alarm fire. Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire but initial speculation is that the Edwin Watts Golf Shop and Countryside Shopping Center was hit by a lighting strike.
“I want to thank the fire fighters from both the Pineville and Charlotte fire departments for trying to save the Edwin Watts Golf Shop and extend our deepest condolences to the Sheltra family for their loss,” added Morris.
