Evans, Ga. – Champions Retreat, a Heritage Golf Group private golf retreat, announces the appointment of Douglas Snyder as the new director of food & beverage. A certified Sommelier, Snyder brings over 25 years of noteworthy experience in the culinary and hospitality industry. He will ensure members and guests of Champions Retreat enjoy true southern hospitality and authentic, refined low-country cuisine, bound to satisfy every palate.
Prior to joining Champions Retreat, Snyder served as the director of food & beverage at the Bohemian Hotel in Savannah, Ga. During his tenure at the Bohemian Hotel, he created and implemented a Barrel Aged Cocktail program along with cocktail-on-draft program resulting in recognition of “Best Cocktails in Savannah” by Savannah Magazine. For two years prior, Snyder held the position of general manager for Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Savannah, where he procured an extensive 325+ bottle wine list featuring over 25 wines by the glass.
While general manager and wine director at The Mint Restaurant in Raleigh, NC, Snyder’s Wine List received critical acclaim from local Raleigh News & Observer food critic, Greg Cox, stating it is “one of the Triangle’s most impressive wine lists.”
Snyder’s other positions include import and Pacific Northwest manager for Juice Wine Purveyors, beverage director and general manager for GHG Hospitality and manager/senior analyst for Matrix Resources. Snyder has a Bachelor of Arts from Saint Andrews Presbyterian College, Laurinburg, NC.
Passionate about working with local farms to use fresh, sustainable ingredients, Snyder hopes to enrich the unique dining experience at Champions Retreat, with approachable, honest, progressive food, a host of hand-crafted cocktails, an expansive wine list and craft beers, served with a
warm smile in the true spirit of southern hospitality-on the cutting edge of tradition. “The addition of Doug to Champions Retreat is met with great excitement,” said Cameron S. Wiebe, general manager at Champions Retreat. “His abilities complement our ambitious team and his focus on hospitality will enhance our already exceptional culinary experience.”
