Wailuku, Hawaii (May 9, 2016) – Kahili Golf Course is proud to announce the appointment of David Gerken as P.G.A head golf professional. In his new role, Gerken has oversight of the golf shop, golf operations, tournament coordination, retail and instructional operations at the course that was recently ranked as one of the “Top 20 Best Courses You Can Play in Hawaii” by Golf Magazine.
Gerken is a Class A PGA of America professional and is a graduate of New Mexico State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration-marketing. Prior to his appointment at Kahili, Gerken was the first assistant golf professional at Northmoor Country Club in Highland Park, Ill. from 2011 through 2015. The Kahili appointment is a homecoming of sorts, as prior to Northmoor, Gerken worked at neighboring King Kamehameha Golf Club in Maui from 2006 through 2011 as a golf professional. He also boasts an impressive teaching/coaching background having owned/operated a Golf In Schools franchise in Illinois that brought golf into physical education programming and served as the St. Anthony High School Golf Team coach for three seasons.
“I am excited and honored to return to Maui and lead our efforts at Kahili,” stated Gerken. “Having spent a number of years on Maui prior to my college years, I have a deep appreciation for the “aloha spirit” and all that it entails. I am determined to continue to enhance the quality of the Kahili experience, and am motivated to bring new and innovative ideas to the Kahili Ohana.”
“Congratulations to David on his appointment as the new head golf professional at Kahili Golf Course,” said Scott Carroll, general manager, Kahili and King Kamehameha Golf Clubs. “We are excited to welcome David back to Maui and are looking forward to watching him further develop the quality golf experience that we believe Kahili Golf Course provides. We are confident that his involvement and determination to constantly improve will benefit those that play Kahili frequently and the golf experience as a whole at Kahili.”
