Dublin, Ohio (May 8th, 2016) Jason Straka, an industry leader in environmental golf-course design and partner at Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design, was recently honored with a Presidential Citation from the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA). Presented on April 26, 2016 at the 70th Annual Meeting held in Washington, D.C., ASGCA Immediate Past President Steve Smyers presented the citation in recognition of Straka’s display of knowledge in the development of meaningful professional education programs. In addition, the award commended his ability and willingness to be a volunteer leader, as well as his aptitude for being a pragmatic manager of diverse opinions along the way.
“As a proud member of the ASGCA, it is an honor to serve an active role identifying resources from which members will gain in-depth education and insight into cutting edge technology, research, and design,” said Straka. “I am a strong proponent of ASGCA’s leadership role within the golf industry, and value the privilege to volunteer my time in support of design excellence with an organization that drives home environmental impact.”
Straka has consistently championed educational initiatives within the golf community throughout his career. An elected member of ASGCA since 2005 and former Board of Governors member, he assisted with the formal development of an Education Committee and has served as the committee’s chairperson since its creation in 2012. The Education Committee works to identify relevant topics and secure speakers who impart valuable information to members so they may continue to practice golf-course architecture at the highest level.
As a golf industry leader, Straka is a devoted advocate of the game of golf and its sustainability. He currently serves as the ASGCA Task Force Representative on an Expert Working Group devised to coordinate input of leading industry experts with the Golf Environment Organization (GEO). The GEO project aims to produce environmental guidelines for the planning, design, and construction of golf courses. The Expert Working Group on which Straka serves was created to evolve and extend the capacity and platform of advancing the sustainability of golf, and to ensure effective collaboration and input into standard setting in the years ahead.
