(BOERNE, Texas) – Cordillera Ranch – the premier luxury community in the scenic Texas Hill Country – will host the Texas Golf Association’s 2016 State Four-Ball Championship May 13-15 on its highly ranked Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course.
The State Four-Ball Championship is the first TGA major tournament of 2016, and will feature many top-ranked amateurs from the Lone Star State. The event is 54 holes of Four-Ball stroke play with three divisions (Championship, Senior, Super Senior). Each division will play from separate tees, and a champion team will be crowned in each division. The field will be cut to low 40 teams and ties after 36 holes.
“We are thrilled to bring the 2016 Texas Four-Ball to Cordillera Ranch after it served as such a superb venue for the 2013 Texas Mid-Amateur,” says Ryan Finn, the TGA Managing Director of Championships. “The Jack Nicklaus-designed course at Cordillera Ranch is one of the most distinguished championship sites in Texas, and the variety of risk/reward options will allow for exciting and dramatic four-ball play, helping to identify a worthy team champion.”
The tournament will mark the first opportunity for many top players to test Cordillera Ranch’s updated bunkers. The project, which began last November, cost in excess of $700,000. More than 1,950 tons of sand were removed from the course’s 82 bunkers. The Better Billy Bunker Method – which uses a two-inch gravel drainage layer over a polymer-sprayed subgrade to bind the gravel together – was then installed. Finally, special “Bunker White” sand was imported from California and added to 100,000-plus square feet of newly-treated bunkers.
“We look forward to hosting this prestigious event and will have the course ready to challenge the state’s best amateur golfers,” says Charlie Hill, President and Chief Operating Officer for DH Investments, developer of Cordillera Ranch. “We are eager to hear feedback from the players on the bunkers, the course layout and conditions, and their overall experience at Cordillera Ranch.”
The State Four-Ball Championship marks yet another highlight moment for the golf course, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2016. Set on pristine land in the Texas Hill Country, the Cordillera Ranch layout meanders through valleys and oak-covered terrain. Many holes offer views of the Guadalupe River Valley and feature strategic bunkering, craggy limestone canyons and thought-provoking risk-reward shots.
The Dallas Morning News’ Texas Golf rankings tabbed the Nicklaus Signature layout a top-5 golf course in 2015. Its signature hole, the par-3 16th, was also named one of the best and most beautiful golf holes in the same rankings.
Earlier this year, Cordillera Ranch added top-100 teacher Bryan Gathright to its golf instruction staff. Gathright will team with Director of Instruction Gevin Allen and Golf Fitness Instructor Ann-Kristin Allen to enrich the club’s teaching program. The partnership pairs Gathright’s proven instructional principles with the Allens’ highly-certified golf fitness program, and their combined areas of expertise will strengthen the club’s junior golf platforms.
The Golf Club is one of seven resort-style clubs at Cordillera Ranch, along with The Social Club, The Tennis and Swim Club, The Equestrian Club, The Rod and Gun Club, The Spa and Athletic Club and The River Club. Perched high atop one of the many breathtaking hills found in the community, the 40,000 square-foot clubhouse is the social heart of the property, and features member dining facilities, a full fitness center, in-house spa, locker rooms, special event rooms, member lounge, four outdoor pools and golf shop.
