The Middle Atlantic PGA and the LPGA Kingsmill Championship will host a 36-hole junior golf tournament preceding the LPGA Kingsmill Championship May 14-15.
The Kingsmill Championship Junior Invitational will feature 54 top junior golfers from Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C. The 34 boys and 20 girls will compete inside the ropes on the River Course in its LPGA tournament conditions just days before the Championship.
“This will be a highly competitive 36-hole junior tournament in the MAPGA section,” Matthew Schulze, the LPGA Tournament Director for the LPGA Kingsmill Championship said. “It’s only fitting that the area’s best junior golfers get the opportunity to compete in a professional setting just days before the world’s best women do so at the LPGA Kingsmill Championship.”
The competitors were invited based on their strong rankings in the Virginia and Maryland Junior Golf Scoreboard and previous MAPGA tournament performances. Ten players earned invites at the MAPGA’s Spring Fling 36-hole tournament at Chantilly National Golf Club in early April.
Defending LPGA Kingsmill Championship winner and former U.S. Junior Champion Minjee Lee will be on hand to present trophies to the winning juniors following the competition on Sunday.
