PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C., May 16, 2016 – Head over to True Blue on any given day and you’ll see golfers of all ages riding the surfboard-style golf cart around the award-winning golf course.
Back in November, True Blue Golf Club became the first Myrtle Beach golf course to introduce GolfBoards. In the six months since, the excitement continues to build around the new way of navigating a course.
“I have been using the GolfBoards since they came out,” said True Blue Golf Club member Connie Gallagher. “They are a lot of fun and they bring an extra excitement to the game.”
Gallagher, a retired teacher from New Jersey, said he initially wanted to try the GolfBoards to help relieve stress on his back that came when sitting in a golf cart for too long. He said before the boards arrived he walked as much as he could, but jumped at the chance to try something new.
“You pick it up real quickly, Gallagher added. “There are two speeds on it so you can go slow or fast. As long as you don’t do anything goofy with it, it’s very safe. To me it just makes the round more enjoyable.”
Gallagher isn’t the only golfer to become an avid GolfBoard rider. Since November, more than 500 riders have rented the board. Additionally, 37 percent of golfers that play at True Blue said they decided to play True Blue because of the boards.
“We have seen unprecedented excitement for the boards,” said Bob Seganti, director of golf operations at True Blue. “We initially thought they would be popular amongst younger golfers, but many of our older members are calling to reserve them. It truly adds an excitement to the game.”
To control the board, riders simply shift their weight left or right. The mounted board where riders stand is wide enough to stand with feet side-by-side, as if riding a surfboard or skateboard, or with both feet facing forward.
“Before any individual rides a GolfBoard, he or she must watch a brief training video,” said Seganti. “Our trained staff assists all new riders and lets all riders take a test drive to feel comfortable before heading out on the course.”
The GolfBoards at True Blue Golf Club run for 36 holes before needing a charge, and feature five never-before-seen features on electric skateboards.
4 Wheel Position Traction – The GolfBoard is driven by front and back gear boxes rather than unreliable chains and belts. This feature ensures safety, reliability and low to no maintenance.
Drivetrain – The four-wheel drive GolfBoard is guaranteed to provide solid transport even on the steepest hills.
Intuitive Control – The GolfBoard is controlled using an ergonomically designed thumb throttle, allowing users to smoothly accelerate and decelerate, and power the GolfBoard on and off. The throttle mechanism also features an intelligent LED meter, providing details of when the GolfBoard battery needs to be recharged. It is specially designed to allow for intuitive, gentle and smooth acceleration and braking. Hi/Low and Forward/Reverse switches are mounted on the Stability Bar for easy access.
4″ Turf Tires – The GolfBoard utilizes tires specifically made for turf use. With their reduced surface area and minimal tread design, there is substantially less impact and pressure on the turf than a fully loaded golf cart.
Powertrain – The GolfBoard uses the highest quality industrial grade electric motors, drives, and on-board intelligent equipment to ensure complete reliability and long life.
GolfBoards are available to all golfers at True Blue Golf Club. Through the end of May, any May package booked includes free GolfBoard rentals. For more information or to reserve tee times, call 1-800-483-6800 or visit TrueBlueGolf.com.
