(WHEELING, W.V.) – Oglebay Resort and Conference Center – West Virginia’s most popular golf destination set in Oglebay Park amid the stunning Appalachian foothills – announces Shane Rice as its PGA head golf professional.
Rice comes to Oglebay from The Club at Shadow Lakes, where he was the PGA head golf professional at the Pittsburgh-area club. Previously he was the PGA director of golf at the Bob O’Connor Golf Course, home of the First Tee of Pittsburgh for the past seven years. Rice also was an assistant golf professional at Allegheny Country Club.
Dedicated to player development, growth and enjoyment of the game for any and all abilities, his lessons incorporate the V1 Golf Coaching System Software for in-depth swing analysis and training.
“Shane is the ideal addition to our team as his passion for the game fits perfectly with our exceptional golf amenities here at Oglebay Resort,” says Rico Coville, director of golf. “He brings an incredible amount of instruction and operations expertise that will greatly enhance the overall golf experience here for our local players and resort guests.”
Currently the head golf coach at Keystone Oaks High School in Pittsburgh, Rice played collegiately at Coastal Carolina University and has competed 16 years professionally in the Tri-State Section of the PGA of America. The section honored Rice with its Player Development Award in 2014.
“Working at Oglebay is a dream come true for me,” Rice says. “The resort has an outstanding reputation, and I’m excited to help take it to the next level.”
Oglebay’s golf amenities feature two acclaimed 18-hole championship layouts at The Speidel Golf Club designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and Arnold Palmer. The resort’s original course – the Crispin at just over 5,600 yards – is ideal for warm-up rounds, seniors and beginners. Oglebay also offers two driving ranges and a family-friendly par-3 course.
Oglebay is an hour’s drive from Pittsburgh and easily accessible from Columbus, Charleston (W.V.), Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit and numerous Midwest and Northeast metropolitan areas.

About Oglebay Resort and Conference Center
Situated in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Wheeling, W.V., Oglebay Resort and Conference Center offers exceptional overnight accommodations, world-class amenities and 1,700 acres of year-round recreational opportunities. Swimming, tennis, horse stables, miniature golf, fishing, miles of paved walking/jogging trails, shopping, sightseeing, and visiting the West Spa and 30-acre Good Zoo are among the numerous activities onsite.
Once the estate of Earl W. Oglebay, the resort and conference center land dates back to the late 1700s. Upon his death in 1926, Oglebay willed his property to the people of Wheeling for as long as “they operate it as a place for public recreation.” Today it is the only self-supporting public municipal resort in operation. Funded mainly through its resort operations, Oglebay Park has more free activities than many facilities of its type in the country.
Oglebay is best known for golf as the resort presents four courses, including two championship layouts at the Speidel Golf Club. The par-71 Arnold Palmer design is a modern links layout that takes advantage of the rolling terrain with strategically-placed bunkers, contemporary mounding and ample-size greens. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., the Jones Course is draped over the hills and dales of a former dairy farm, and hosted the West Virginia LPGA Classic for 11 years.
The resort also features the 18-hole regulation Crispin Course – Oglebay’s original layout – and a nine-hole, par-3 course. A full-service practice range and short-game area at Speidel offer warm-up and game-improvement opportunities.
Accommodations include the inviting, 270-room Wilson Lodge, quaint cottages and spacious estate houses. With over 20,000 square feet of meeting space spread over 15 rooms, Oglebay offers all the amenities to meet today’s business demands, and provides an ideal setting for training programs and corporate retreats.
