The Quechee Club, Vermont’s premier golf destination, is home to the 2016 NEPGA New England Open, for the 2nd consecutive year. PGA Members, Apprentices, Non-PGA Professionals and Amateur golfers (with current USGA Handicap Indexes not exceeding 4.0 under the USGA Handicap System) will tee off on Wednesday, June 8 and Thursday, June 9, in a 36-hole stroke play championship. The overall low scorer for 36 holes will be declared the champion. In the event of a tie, a hole-by-hole playoff will immediately follow play.
Lakeland – The New England Open’s Course of Choice
The championship will be played on the Club’s renowned Lakeland course, an alternate from last year’s event on Highland. Tee times will begin promptly at 7:30am, with two consecutive days of 18-hole play. Rated among the top ten courses in Vermont by Golf Digest, Lakeland is well-known for its links-style design that incorporates trees, bunkers, and water features. A long stretch of the Ottauquechee River runs adjacent to the course, making ball placement and skillful course management key to a successful round.
This year’s tournament participants are unchallenged, with 2015 New England Open winner, James Driscoll, unavailable to defend his title. James left the Quechee Club with a win last year after a five-hole birdie on the back nine of the Highland course. With his 10-under par 134 (68-66), Driscoll, who started the day tailing leaders Ryan Zylstra and Rich Berberian, defeated Zylstra by four strokes and Berberian by five strokes.
New England Open Purse Stands at $50,000 in Cash Prizes
