Youth On Course Enters New Mexico, West Texas With Sun Country Partnership

June 8, 2016

(PEBBLE BEACH, CA) – Youth on Course – the golf non-profit providing young people with subsidized rounds, college scholarships, paid internships and other access benefits – furthers its national expansion in partnering with the Sun Country Junior Golf Foundation.

The partnership allows junior golfers in New Mexico and West Texas to join the program for a small annual fee and play the following courses for “$5 or less” per round:

• Black Mesa Golf Club (Española, NM)

• Civitan Golf Course (Farmington, NM)

• Coyote Del Malpais Golf Course (Grants, NM)

• Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe Golf Course (Santa Fe, NM)

• Pinon Hills Golf Course (Farmington, NM)

Additional courses will soon be added – with member cards sent to early registrants this month. As an added benefit, all Youth on Course members in the region will also be eligible for the Sun Country Junior Tour.

“We’ve seen firsthand the impact Youth on Course has had when exposing young people to golf in California, Arizona and Utah,” says Sun Country Amateur Golf Association Executive Director Dana Lehner. “Accessibility to the game is a mission of our organization, and partnering with YOC will open doors for a lot of junior golfers.”

Born from the Northern California Golf Association, Youth on Course has grown to include nearly 15,000 members across 12 states. Through subsidizing greens fees, about 400,000 rounds to date, courses lose no revenue and a major financial barrier is removed for young players.

“We’re thrilled with the early adoption we’re having in New Mexico,” says Youth on Course Executive Director Adam Heieck. “As we add more partner courses, the area’s growing junior golf population will have their pick of affordable golf options.”

Support for Youth on Course drives the organization’s growth across America. Many view the initiative as a bridge between youth instruction and consistent play throughout adulthood, as well as an opportunity for junior golfers to interact outside of a competition setting.
