(HARRIS, MICHIGAN) – Professional golf tournaments are nothing if not immense logistical undertakings that can’t perform well without big-hearted sponsors and volunteers, and that certainly holds true entering the 2016 Island Resort Championship at Sweetgrass, June 24-26.
Since it began six years ago, the Symetra Tour “Road to the LPGA” tournament at Island Resort and Casino – owned and operated by the Hannahville Indian Community – has been blessed with overwhelming support, led this year by Presenting Sponsor Delta County Chamber of Commerce.
“Our generous sponsors and volunteers provide invaluable assistance,” says Island Resort and Casino GM Tony Mancilla, tournament chairman. “They help showcase rising women stars, the Upper Peninsula and our award-winning Sweetgrass Golf Club, simultaneously generating proceeds for area non-profit organizations.”
Many area families host players at their homes for the week and have done so for years. The depth of sustenance doesn’t stop there, it extends to individual volunteers performing a variety of duties across a wide spectrum. The business community is similarly invested, exemplified by Delta County Chamber of Commerce’s generous support.
“We believe the tournament experience for spectators, volunteers and players will once again be a memorable one, and we applaud the Hannahville Indian Community for hosting this exciting annual event at its Island Resort and Casino and Sweetgrass Golf Club,” says Delta County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Vickie Micheau. “We’re extremely fortunate to have such a strong base of volunteers in our community. Year after year, we see numbers grow and it’s the shared vision and passion of this extraordinary group that helps make the Island Resort Championship an overwhelming success in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.”
