Youth On Course Partners With Michigan On Affordable Junior Golf Program

June 28, 2016

(PEBBLE BEACH, CA) – Youth on Course – the golf non-profit providing young people with subsidized rounds, college scholarships, paid internships and other access benefits – partners with the Golf Association of Michigan Foundation to bring affordable junior golf to the Great Lakes State.

With this agreement, Michigan kids and teens will have access to “$5 or less” rounds through Youth on Course. A selection of courses will soon be announced after the program goes live July 1, 2016.

Born from the Northern California Golf Association, Youth on Course has grown to include over 15,000 members across 13 states. Through the subsidizing of greens fees, about 400,000 to date, courses fill unused tee times and a major financial barrier is removed for young golfers.

“The goal of our foundation is to help both kids and adults learn the game, participate regularly and become lifelong golfers,” says Golf Association of Michigan Executive Director David Graham. “When the opportunity emerged to engage youth, especially those who see cost as a challenge to entry, it was an easy decision for us.”

Courses aligned with The First Tee, PGA Junior League and other community youth golf programs are expected to be amongst the first to welcome new Youth on Course members. Participants will also be granted GAM membership and all associated handicap and competition benefits.

“It’s very exciting to welcome a state with a rich tradition of golf and a major metropolitan market into our family,” says Youth on Course Executive Director Adam Heieck. “Michigan’s junior golf population is rapidly growing, and we believe affordable access will help take it to the next level.”

Support for Youth on Course drives the organization’s growth across America. Many view the initiative as a bridge between youth instruction and consistent play throughout adulthood, as well as an opportunity for junior golfers to interact outside of a competition setting.
