Orlando, Fla. (June 28, 2016) – Mike McGetrick, whose students include major champions and members of the World Golf Hall of Fame, has been named an instructor for Golf Channel Academy.
The PGA of America National Teacher of the Year in 1999, McGetrick is among the game’s most influential and recognizable teachers who have established a dedicated network of instruction facilities with the active support of Golf Channel, the game’s leading global multimedia and golf entertainment source.
“I’m very excited to be among these dynamic coaches associated with the Golf Channel Academy,” said McGetrick, who is the Director of Instruction for the Mike McGetrick Golf Academy, located at the Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas. “This is a chance for golf coaches to work together, learning from one another and adopting best practices in both coaching, to better serve the golfing public. My goal is to help our clients learn to play, play better and enjoy playing golf more.”
Launched in April 2015, Golf Channel Academy is the first network of its kind devoted to efficiently growing the business of golf instruction. With 68 locations, Golf Channel Academy will be inviting additional coaches to become part of the network as it continues to grow.
For 30 years McGetrick has helped thousands of golfers of all ages and abilities improve their games at his academy, recognized as one of the “Top 25 Golf Schools in America” by GOLF magazine. He has also enjoyed quite a bit of success with his tour professional students – a group that’s combined to win 53 events worldwide and 11 major championships across the PGA, LPGA and PGA Champions tours.
Among McGetrick’s most notable students are two-time U.S. Women’s Open champion and World Golf Hall of Famers Juli Inkster, Beth Daniel and Karrie Webb; four-time LPGA major winner Meg Mallon; PGA Tour veterans Brandt Jobe, Gary Hallberg, Scott McCarron and Tom Purtzer. McGetrick coached five (of the 12) players on the victorious U.S. Solheim Cup team in 2002 and four players on the 2004 team.
One of the premier golf instructors in America today, McGetrick is a five-time Colorado Section PGA Teacher of the Year and has also ranked as high as No. 7 in Golf Digest magazine’s rankings of “The 50 Best Teachers in America.” He has also been a mainstay on GOLF magazine’s “Top 100 Teachers in America” list since its inception in 1996.
A PGA Master Professional in Teaching, McGetrick has made several appearances on Golf Channel and written numerous articles for Golf Digest and GOLF magazines. He also is the author of the book, “The Scrambler’s Dozen: The 12 Shots Every Golfer Needs to Score Like the Pros,” and was instrumental in the development of Colorado Golf Club, host site of the 2013 Solheim Cup and 2010 PGA Senior Championship.
McGetrick’s staff at the Golf Club of Houston’s Golf Channel Academy includes Derek Clouse, PGA Professional; Ross Prachar, PGA Professional; Edwin Fuh, PGA Club Fitting Professional; Marci Bozarth, PGA & LPGA Professional; Tyler Ferrell, Biomechanics Professional; Charlie Epps, PGA Professional, and Sammy Hanson, PGA Professional.
