PISCATAWAY, N.J., July XX, 2016…The New Jersey Golf Foundation (NJGF), the charitable arm of the New Jersey Section, PGA of America (NJPGA), announced the recipients of the prestigious Peter A. Junior golfers, Brittany Morgan of Metuchen and David Haselkorn of Franklin Lakes, were awarded Scholarships and honored at the 8th Annual New Jersey Golf Foundation Peter A. Famiano Memorial Pro-Am on June 30, 2016, at Crestmont Country Club, in West Orange, N.J.
Peter Famiano was the Head Golf Professional at Crestmont Country Club for over 35 years. In honor of Peter, the NJGF created the Peter A. It is a $2,500 annual scholarship that is open to college students of any class year, provided they continue to meet the standards set forth by the Scholarship Committee. The NJGF Scholarship Committee reviews all applications using the following criteria: scholarship achievement, qualities of character and leadership, financial need, volunteer history and future in golf.
“The 2016 Peter A. Famiano Memorial Scholarship recipients have distinguished themselves in their communities through volunteer work, athletics and excelling in the classroom,” said Chris Hunt, Executive Director, New Jersey Golf Foundation. “Peter Famiano was always committed to helping others, and it’s rewarding for us to support the continuing education of these deserving individuals in Peter’s honor. It’s also nice to see both recipients attending the PGA Golf Management University program as aspiring PGA Professionals.”
Morgan graduated from Metuchen High School in June of 2015 where she graduated with honors and was involved in numerous volunteering activities including Girl Scouts and at local Soup Kitchens. Since then, she has been attending Pennsylvania State University where she continued to volunteer her time for others by participating in the schools THON event, the largest student run philanthropy in the world, in support of pediatric cancer. Morgan is majoring in PGA Professional Golf Management and plans to volunteer at Penn State’s Special Olympics event alongside the school’s Head Professional next spring.
Haselkorn recently graduated with honors from Indian Hills High School, where he was involved in numerous clubs, competitions, and activities including DECA, Stock Market Game, and the Euro Challenge. In addition to excelling in the classroom, Haselkorn has been a valuable member of the Golf Staff at Ridgewood Country Club since he was 13 years old.
