PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C., July 22, 2016 – Caledonia Golf & Fish Club lent its support to drive interest in youth golf this past Tuesday, July 19, when the popular Grand Strand golf course hosted 120 golfers for The First Tee of The Grand Strand’s annual Future Generations Tournament. The First Tee of the Grand Strand is an organization with established multiple seasonal and afterschool golf programs designed for children and teens in Horry and Georgetown Counties.
The local tournament has been hosted by Caledonia Golf & Fish Club for five consecutive years and of the 120 golfers, 24 were First Tee participants all under the age of 17. Each First Tee participant played with a threesome of sponsors in a Scramble style tournament. The winning score of the tournament was an impressive 21-under par 51.
Co-hosting the event was the Golf Channel’s very own Kelly Tilghman of North Myrtle Beach and Charlie Rymer, who is also a South Carolina native. This is the fifth year that Tilghman and Rymer have been involved with The First Tee and according to their spotlight video it won’t be the last.
“The First Tee of The Grand Strand had a very successful Future Generations Tournament on Tuesday at the magnificent Caledonia Golf & Fish Club,” said Rich Abraham, executive director of The First Tee of the Grand Strand. “The golf course, along with our co-hosts Kelly Tilghman and Charlie Rymer of The Golf Channel, combine for a great draw for our premier annual event.”
Since the inception of The First Tee in 1997, the organization has strived to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf. Since 1997, over 10.5 million young people have been exposed to The First Tee’s Nine Core Values including honesty, respect, responsibility and perseverance, which will help them both on and off the golf course.
