Larchmont, NY (July 21, 2016) – The Bush Cup Foundation, sponsor of the Bush Cup collegiate golf competition, announces the 2nd annual competition to take place October 14, 2016, at the historic Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois, outside Chicago. Army West Point golf team has accepted the challenge from Northwestern University golf team to a Walker Cup-format competition to decide the winner of the 2016 Bush Cup.

The Bush Cup Foundation also will be awarding the Foundation Humanitarian Award to David Feherty, famed golf professional, author, and renowned television golf analyst, for his contributions to U.S. Military wounded soldiers and their families. Feherty is the co-founder of the “Troops First Foundation,” which has provided meaningful assistance and support to those solders wounded while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Ret. General Raymond T. Odierno will present the award to Feherty at the awards dinner following the competition.

The Bush Cup Foundation was established in 2015 to “promote collegiate sports and inspire athletes to strive for personal excellence as well as service to our country as exemplified by the life of President George H.W. Bush.” President Bush was honored by the dedication of the event and stated, “not only will the tournament bear my name, but more importantly it recognizes service to country… I am proud to be part of what I am sure will be a hugely successful annual event.”

The Foundation is honored to have a distinguished Advisory Committee dedicated to furthering its goals. Members include, Phil Mickleson, Fred Couples, Davis Love III, Jim Nantz, and President Bush’s daughter, Dorothy Bush Koch.

This 2nd Bush Cup follows the inaugural event that was held at Winged Foot Golf Club last October. The West Point Cadets competed against Yale University (alma mater of President Bush). The match ended in a tie, thus as the home team, Army kept the cup.

The Bush Cup Foundation is a registered 501(c)3 organization dedicated to promoting goodwill, celebrating amateur golf, and recognizing Army West Point and service to our country. Visit the Foundation web site at www.bushcup.com for more information about the upcoming event and to view a video of the Inaugural Bush Cup.
