Lauren Thompson and Bailey Moiser scheduled to report from participating courses in Orlando and nation’s capital
ORLANDO, Fla. (July 25, 2016) – Morning Drive’s Lauren Thompson and Bailey Mosier will report live on Monday, Aug. 1, from the sixth annual “World’s Largest Golf Outing,” a simultaneous golf outing to be played at more than 140 courses across North America that has raised more than $3 million for injured veterans and their families since 2011.
Thompson will be on location at Dubsdread Golf Course in Orlando, Fla., and Mosier at 1757 Golf Club in Dulles, Va., providing live updates for Golf Channel’s daily news and lifestyle show. Billy Casper Golf, which founded the “World’s Largest Golf Outing,” has joined forces with Troon, ClubCorp, Toll Golf and the National Golf Course Owners Association to host the event at a record number of courses this year. The event is open to all golfers regardless of ability, and there is no USGA handicap required.
Scheduled to join Thompson and Mosier are special guests, including Peter Hill, Chairman and CEO of Billy Casper Golf; Dale Beatty, an Iraq War veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart; Ken Fisher, Chairman and CEO of Fisher House Foundation; and Dave Coker, President of Fisher House Foundation. Morning Drive airs live weekdays from 7-9 a.m. ET.
“We’re so grateful to partner with Golf Channel to help spread the word on this truly amazing event,” says Hill. “Those tuning in Monday morning will see a nation of golfers joining together in solidarity to support America’s heroes and their families; the generosity of participants nationwide has been nothing short of awe inspiring.”
Golf Channel’s digital businesses – including www.GolfChannel.com, www.GolfNow and www.GolfAdvisor.com – will join Morning Drive in support the event online and via social media.
“We’re proud of our involvement in the World’s Largest Golf Outing,” said Kevin Schultz, Golf Channel senior director of lifestyle content. “Lauren and Bailey are honored and looking forward to helping introduce our Morning Drive viewers to this worthy endeavor and showcasing the impact golfers across our country will be making that help our military and their families.”
Since the first ball was struck five years ago, more than 40,000 golfers have participated in the World’s Largest Golf Outing to north of $3 million raised for charity. Last year’s record-setting event saw 12,397 golfers, including 567 injured service members, at 132 golf courses in 28 states raise more than $1 million.
Part proceeds and 100 percent of donations benefit Fisher House Foundation, an international organization known for its network of comfort homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment at nearby VA medical centers. Teams are encouraged to raise additional funds; donations can be made at www.worldslargestgolfouting.com/donate.
All registered golfers will be entered into a grand-prize drawing to win a trip for four to the Nike Campus in Beaverton, Ore., for custom club fitting and other merchandise. The highest national fundraising team will win a trip for four to Destination Kohler, host of the 2020 Ryder Cup, to play the Irish Course at Whistling Straits and either the River Course or Meadow Valleys Course at Blackwolf Run.
