BOURBON, MO – Imperial Headwear has partnered with Sugarloaf Social Club (SSC) to offer an exclusive “Play or Perish” collection of hats and visors available online only at Imperialsports.com. $10 from each item sold will be donated to a select junior golf initiative.
The inaugural beneficiary of this first-run collection is Schoolhouse Nine, which opened in July of 2015 as the first and only course in Rappahannock County, Virginia. Donated proceeds will help subsidize much needed equipment and professional instruction for underprivileged junior golfers in the surrounding area.
“At Imperial, we understand the importance of supporting the next generation of golfers and the impact access to a quality and sustainably designed facility can have on them,” said David Shaffer, director of marketing at Imperial Headwear. “We embrace the responsibility of championing these key initiatives and are honored to do so with a creative offering that golf enthusiasts from around the country are sure to enjoy.”
For the collection’s first run, Imperial is offering three styles of headwear for sale online only available here: http://www.imperialsports.com/product-category/sugarloaf-collection/
Each design comes decorated with a unique “Play or Perish” patch adorned with the Sugarloaf Social Club banner. The Gadsden snake is flanked by the recognizable yellow background, a contemporary ode to the well-worn patriotic symbol. The three initial models are as follows:
1. “The Schoolhouse” – A new age rope hat style with lightweight, performance fabric. This cap has an adjustable snap back closure and black rope running across the top of the visor.
2. “The Headmaster” – The original Tour Visor from Imperial Headwear. This style is Made in the USA and features a high crown and white terrycloth sweatband.
3. “The Commonwealth” – A popular bucket style, this packable option provides 360-degree sun cover and is finished with a red grosgrain ribbon.
“Imperial is one of the oldest and most respected brands in golf and headwear,” says Ian Gilley, Co-Founder and President of Sugarloaf Social Club. “So to partner with them on a project that will help support junior golf participation at an architecturally, socially, environmentally and economically sustainable course – a course that Sugarloaf Social Club literally builtåÂå – is a dream come true.”
The architect of Schoolhouse Nine and member of SSC, Mike McCartin, designed and built the course to show off the area’s beautiful surroundings while providing an inclusive, architecturally interesting, and – most importantly – fun experience for golfers of all ages and abilities. The nine-hole, par-three course’s holes range from 87 to 171 yards in length and is set on a gently sweeping old grazing field steps from the center of downtown.
Of the total 20 acres covered by the course, roughly half is maintained and only 1.4 of these acres are irrigated. The remaining natural areas are planted with a selection of wildflowers and warm season grasses, with the purpose of providing habitat for pollinators and ground nesting birds. By using native grasses at a higher cut height for the fairways, the course has drastically reduced the external inputs necessary for a healthy turf. Schoolhouse Nine prides itself as a shining example of a sustainable, walkable, affordable and manageable community golf course that fosters developmental and spirited play.
