(POUND RIDGE, N.Y.) – Pound Ridge Golf Club – the daily fee Pete Dye design in Westchester County – holds its spot among New York’s finest, ranking No. 4 in GOLF Magazine’s 2016 edition of the “Best Courses Near You.”
Part of its biennial “Top 100 Courses You Can Play” in the United States list, “Best Courses Near You” highlights the top tracks in all 50 states as determined by the magazine’s editorial staff and panel of well-traveled golf industry insiders.
Pound Ridge joins other notable courses on the top list including The Black Course at Bethpage State Park, host of the 2009 U.S. Open and future site of the 2019 PGA Championship and 2024 Ryder Cup.
“Pound Ridge has truly found a home amongst the best courses in New York,” says Ken Wang, Pound Ridge owner. “In 2008 Pete Dye transformed 172 acres of cliffs, streams and wooded hills into a course that has to be seen to be believed, and we’re thrilled that GOLF Magazine continues to recognize its reputation as one of the most special places to tee it up in America.”
An enjoyable blend of challenging driving holes, signature pot bunkers and risk/reward approach shots has earned Pound Ridge a spot alongside The Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, Whistling Straits and Harbour Town Golf Links in Dye’s pantheon of legendary courses.
With five sets of tees ranging from 5,151 to to 7,165 yards, the par-72 layout provides memorable rounds for all ability levels. Among its unforgettable holes is the dramatic par-5 13th which is home to “Pete’s Rock,” a giant boulder that rests in the middle of the fairway. At 480 yards it may be short but has plenty of bite with a narrow green guarded by a deep pot bunker in front and rocks to the right. The par-3 15th – dubbed “Headstone” – features an elongated but shallow, 9,000 square-foot green with a large rock face serving as an unpredictable backboard for errant shots.

Located in Westchester County, less than an hour north of New York City and less than 15 minutes from Stamford and Greenwich, CT, Pound Ridge Golf Club is the only course in New York designed by the legendary Pete Dye.
Crafted by Dye, his son Perry and long-time Dye construction manager/lead shaper Michael Langkau, the full bentgrass facility is hailed as the premier high-end, public course in the metropolitan New York area.
