Hamburg, NJ – Crystal Springs Resort’s Ballyowen and Wild Turkey courses, nestled among the Hamburg Mountains in Northwestern New Jersey, have been selected among “The Best Courses Near You” by GOLF Magazine.
The Ballyowen course was ranked No. 2 and Wild Turkey No. 12 on the list of best courses in New Jersey.
This latest accolade for Crystal Springs appears in the September 2016 issue.
The biennial list, put together by the magazine’s editors and its panel of golf industry insiders, highlights the top public golf courses across the United States, as well as the best in each state.
“To be recognized by GOLF Magazine with two of our six courses among the best in New Jersey is very exciting,” Art Walton, vice president of golf for Crystal Springs Resort, said. “This recognition of Ballyowen and Wild Turkey further solidifies the quality and variety of golf we offer making us one of the premier golf destinations in the Northeast.”
Ballyowen and Wild Turkey were each designed by Roger Rulewich, the long-time lead design associate for Hall of Fame architect Robert Trent Jones Sr.
Rulewich applied much of his design knowledge to create Ballyowen, a modern day links-style course that is spread over 250 acres atop a plateau with 360-degree views overlooking the beautiful Walkill River. Its fescue-lined holes’ meander through open meadows and rolling farmland creating a feel of an inland Heathland style course of Ireland.
The popular Wild Turkey course is located adjacent to the spectacular Grand Cascades Lodge. Rulewich incorporated some Ballyowen features and great viewing spots through the course with parkland holes flowing along a ridge and through an open basin area. The course’s wide fairways, multiple teeing areas and fun green contours make it an enjoyable golf experience for players of all levels.
Complimenting Ballyowen and Wild Turkey is a variety of golf unmatched in the Northeast. This includes one of the toughest courses in America, the memorable Crystal Springs course. It meanders in and around a spectacular limestone quarry. Black Bear is also one of the more popular courses in the region. It drapes along the Hamburg Mountain landscape providing scenic wooded holes with challenging shot values.
Crystal Springs also features two innovative nine-hole courses that cater to all levels of players. The Cascades course offers a variety of tee positions including junior tees, large cups, Golf Boards, Golf Bikes, and the option to play Footgolf. The Minerals course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., has long been regarded as the best 9-hole golf course in the Northeast and one of the top short courses in America.
