Twelve of country’s top teams set to battle Sept. 24-27, 2016 Annika Award presented by 3M winner also to be recognized
(ORLANDO, Fla.) – The ANNIKA Foundation – golf Hall-of-Famer Annika Sorenstam’s charitable organization – announces the third-annual ANNIKA Intercollegiate Presented by 3M will return to Reunion Resort, Sept. 24-27.
The tournament will showcase 12 of women’s golf top teams (2015-16 final rankings in parentheses): UCLA (1), 2015 ANNIKA Intercollegiate champion USC (2), Duke (4), Georgia (6), Florida (7), Oklahoma State (9), Arizona State (10), Arizona (11), Arkansas (12), Virginia (14) and 2014 ANNIKA Intercollegiate champion South Carolina (17). The final member of the field is the host school, the University of Central Florida.
Defending individual ANNIKA Intercollegiate champion Karen Chung (USC) is one of the many All-Americans scheduled to play. Others include 2016 ANNIKA Award Presented by 3M winner Bronte Law (UCLA), 2015 ANNIKA Award winner Leona Maguire (Duke) and 2016 NCAA Individual Champion Virginia Elena Carta (Duke).
On Sunday, Sept. 25, Annika will formally present Law with her 2016 ANNIKA Award at a gala dinner. Law enjoyed a fantastic 2015-16 season, winning three times including the NCAA Bryan Regional. As the ANNIKA Award recipient, Law also earned an exemption into the Evian Championship (Sept. 15-18), the LPGA’s final major of the 2016 season.
“With each passing year, our tournament gets better on and off the course,” says Annika, the 1991 NCAA Champion and co-player of the year. “We’re excited to welcome yet another exceptional collection of talent to Orlando to kick off the 2016-17 season and invite you to come out and see the stars of tomorrow.”
