ORLANDO, Fla. (Sept. 22, 2016) – Accomplished player, teaching professional and high school golf coach Mark Polich, one of the top coaches in Southern Arizona, is scheduled to appear as a guest instructor on Golf Channel’s Morning Drive September 27 and 28.
The popular daily morning show airs from 7-9 a.m. Eastern.
Polich, owner and founder of Mark Polich Golf, a world-class indoor training facility in Tucson, Ariz., is one of the inaugural coaches in Golf Channel Academy (GCA), a dedicated network of teaching facilities. Select Golf Channel Academy coaches are being invited to appear on the network’s news and instruction shows, including The Golf Fix and School of Golf; Polich is making his first appearance on Morning Drive.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to appear on Morning Drive,” said Polich, whose Catalina Foothills High School girl’s varsity teams won 88% of their matches, nine regional championships and four state titles from 2000-2011. “It’s been a great experience to be a part of the Golf Channel Academy network of coaches and I look forward to sharing some of my best instruction and playing strategies with the viewers at home.”
A native of Northern Minnesota, Polich won four club championships during the 12 years he was a member at Hazeltine National Golf Club-site of next weekend’s Ryder Cup Matches-and finished runner-up another four times. He was also runner-up in the 1992 Minnesota Mid-Am and a first alternate in the 1999 U.S. Amateur.
In addition to the four state titles, his teams also placed runner-up four times and won 100 consecutive matches against Southern Arizona teams from 2003-2010. Polich was recognized by the Southern Arizona media as Coach of the Year eight times in his 11-year varsity coaching career, during which time he coached 27 Southern Arizona First-Team All-Stars, 10 individual regional champs, and two individual state champions. Fourteen of his players competed in college at the Division I, III, NAIA and Junior College levels.
Although he retired from his high school coaching duties in 2010, Polich continues to work with junior golfers. In May, one of his players shot 62 in the Tucson City Junior Championship-believed to be the lowest score ever posted by a high school girl in Southern Arizona. In recognition of his high school coaching success, Polich will be inducted into the Pima County Sports Hall of Fame next month.
