American Airlines begins daily nonstop service from New York to Tucson, Arizona on October 7, 2016
TUCSON, ARIZ. – Enjoying 18 or 36 holes-coupled with authentic Mexican restaurants and relaxing resort respites found only in Tucson, Arizona-just got easier for residents of New York and New Jersey with the addition of new nonstop New York/Tucson flights by American Airlines.
The inaugural flight will depart New York’s JFK airport at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016, arriving in Tucson at 8:12 p.m. The first flight from Tucson will depart on Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 at 7:57 a.m., arriving at JFK at 4 p.m. Daily service will continue at the same time through November 5 when the clocks change and the flight times move one hour later.
“This new air service is the culmination of more than 18 months of gathering support from the community,” Brent DeRaad, President/CEO of Visit Tucson, commented. “The tourism community worked hand-in-hand with the Tucson Airport Authority and the Tucson Metro Chamber to secure this new service, which we believe will have an incredibly positive impact for the business and tourism sectors.”
Now East Coast visitors will arrive in time to experience the gastronomic delights of what New York Magazine called “the Southwest’s next foodie destination.” Tucson’s dining options feature an array of original local restaurants, as well as a James Beard Award winner, a wide variety of international spots and an area known as “The Best 23 Miles of Mexican Food.”
The golf choices are equally compelling. Players can tee it up on courses like Omni Tucson National, home to the Tucson Conquistadores Classic PGA Tour Champions event and Arizona’s newest tract, Sewailo Golf Club. If resort-style golf is the preference, the options include JW Marriott Starr Pass, Westin La Paloma and Ventana Canyon. For muni-golf lovers, players can test their skills on any of the six municipal courses located around the city. No matter a player’s skill level, there is a course that will provide an enjoyable day in the sun.
“We are excited to have New Yorkers visit Tucson and experience our ‘Free Yourself’ lifestyle,” DeRaad said. “It is now easier than ever for them to enjoy our stunning mountain backgrounds, warm sunshine, amazing food and great golf.”
