MURIETTA, Calif. (Oct. 4, 2016) – The Children and Athletes Regenerative Medicine (CHARMED) Foundation donated $25,000 to Tom Pernice Jr. Charities. CHARMED President MaryAnn O’Neill was on hand at the kick off reception of the 6th annual Tom Pernice Jr. Charity Golf Classic on Sunday evening (Oct. 2) to deliver the donation.
Tom Pernice Jr. Charities has earmarked the full amount of the donation for The University of Iowa Stephen A. Wynn Institute for Vision Research – which, under the direction of Edwin M. Stone, MD, Ph.D. has made strides toward reversing and curing inherited retinal disorders through gene replacement therapy.
“It is CHARMED’s mission to support the efforts of the physicians and institutes conducting research and champion those affected by diseases that can be treated through regenerative medicine,” said CHARMED President and Boston native MaryAnn O’Neill. “It is with great pleasure that we make a contribution to Tom Pernice Jr. Charities as a way to recognize and support Tom’s philanthropic work and long-time dedication to supporting cell and gene therapy research in order to help find a cure for Leber Congenital Amaurosis to give his daughter sight, who has been blind since birth.”
The Tom Pernice Jr. Charity Golf Classic benefits the foundation which supports a number of causes including: The Unforgettables Foundation, which provides a dignified burial for low income families who have lost a child, the Stephen A. Wynn Institute for Vision Research and The First Tee of Inland Empire. Tom Pernice Jr. is a member of CHARMED’s Athletes’ Advisory Board.
“Our foundation is deeply grateful for the generous donation from CHARMED,” said Tom Pernice Jr., 33-year PGA Tour Professional and founder of Tom Pernice Jr. Charities. “It is a privilege to be able to continue our support of The Stephen A. Wynn Institute for Vision Research and the efforts of the doctors who have dedicated their professional lives to making a difference for families like my own.”
