Speedgolf gives new meaning to golf’s “pace of play”
GLENVIEW, Illinois, Oct. 5, 2016 – Speedgolf International, the organizing and governing body for the sport of Speedgolf, will host the 2016 Speedgolf World Championship at the Glen Club in Glenview, Illinois, October 17-18. Speedgolf is a hybrid of running and golf, combining the precision of traditional golf with the endurance and athleticism of cross country running. The 2016 Speedgolf World Championship marks the fifth annual World Championship, and second consecutive year of the World Championship being held in the Chicagoland area.
Speedgolf scores are determined by adding the total number of minutes and seconds it takes to complete a round of golf with the total number of strokes. Players compete at a rapid pace, completing 18-holes of golf in less than an hour, and carrying no more than seven clubs.
“We are very excited that the 2016 Speedgolf World Championship will return to the Glen Club,” said Jim Kosciolek, executive director of Speedgolf International. “We look forward to building on last year’s event and continuing to grow awareness and participation in Speedgolf.”
The 2016 Speedgolf World Championship will feature four separate events: an 18-hole competition for men in which participants are grouped by age, an 18-hole competition for women, a 36-hole elite amateur event and a 36-hole professional event. The 18-hole competitions will compete on Monday, October 17. The 36-hole elite amateur field and professional field will take place over two days, Monday, October 17 – Tuesday, October 18. Those participating in the professional division will complete for a purse of $40,000.
This year’s professional field will feature 2013 and 2015 Speedgolf World Champion Rob Hogan, 2014 Speedgolf World Champion Eri Crum, Three Time Olympian Nick Willis, 2016 New York Speedgolf Open Winner Wesley Cupp and the 2015 Speedgolf Women’s World Champion Gretchen Johnson.
This year’s event benefits the Ocular Melanoma Foundation and Girls in the Game. For more information on Speedgolf, the 2016 Speedgolf World Championship, or to how to volunteer, please visit SpeedgolfInternational.com or contact Jim Kosciolek at jim.kosciolek@speedgolfinternational.com.
