PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FLORIDA, USA (October 12, 2016) Professional golfer Jeff Klauk has joined Perfect Golf Event as the Manager of Tournaments and Events for the new digital platform designed for charitable and sponsored golf tournament organizers, enabling them to raise more money for their causes.
Klauk, 38, recently transitioned from a 16-year professional playing career, including extended stints on the PGA Tour and Web.com Tour, to this role with Perfect Golf Event, whose headquarters are located in Ponte Vedra Beach. He grew up in Ponte Vedra Beach, where his father, Fred, was the longtime superintendent at TPC Sawgrass. Klauk and his family reside in nearby St. Augustine.
He joins another resident of Florida’s First Coast, current PGA Tour Champions player and 2005 PLAYERS Championship winner Fred Funk, with Perfect Golf Event. Funk became the spokesperson for the organization in January 2015.
“Having played in many pro-ams through the years as a professional, I know how important fundraising events are for individual and corporate causes,” Klauk said. “Since I have epilepsy and want to help raise funds for the Epilepsy Foundation and other causes, I understand how vital it is to be prepared for events so that organizations can raise the most money for their charitable initiative. There is a growing demand for this kind of service, and being involved with Perfect Golf Event is intriguing because it allows me to stay involved in golf and help others.”
“We are delighted to welcome Jeff to the growing Perfect Golf Event team,” said Bruce Lucker, CEO of Perfect Golf Event. “In our first 18 months, the company has worked with thousands of tournaments and this is the perfect time to add someone with Jeff’s expertise and energy as we continue to accelerate our growth as the most robust digital platform for golf tournament organizers who focus on fundraising and special events.”
Klauk won twice in his professional career, at the 2003 Preferred Health Systems Wichita (Kan.) Open and the 2008 Melwood Prince George’s County (Md.) Open on the Web.com Tour. He played four seasons on the PGA Tour, beginning in 2009 when he earned three fourth-place finishes and more than $1.2 million during his rookie season. He finished a career-best solo fourth at The Honda Classic that season. Additionally, Klauk was the 2000 NCAA Division II Championship medalist at Florida Southern, thereby earning the Arnold Palmer Award, and also played on the United States Palmer Cup team that summer in England – both named in honor of the recently deceased golf legend.
Klauk’s playing career was derailed by health issues. In April 2012, he underwent brain surgery at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta to deal with the effects of epileptic seizures he first experienced in 2006. He played eight tournaments on the Web.com Tour in 2015.
“I haven’t been able to perform at the same level in recent years,” Klauk said. “At this point, I wasn’t able to get the results I wanted and it was a struggle physically.”
On Monday, Sept., 26, Klauk participated in an event in Albany, N.Y., for The Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York, the Jake Straughter Memorial Golf Tournament for Epilepsy. Klauk has participated in the event for three years and is also an Ambassador for Athletes vs. Epilepsy (www.athletesvsepilepsy.com) nationally.
“I have played in some fundraising events that were great and others that needed a lot of help,” Klauk said. “The tournament in New York is fantastic and is a real boost for awareness and fundraising for epilepsy. We have a lot of fun and it’s also for a great cause. That is a model event and hopefully we can have many more of those types of events.”
Klauk has been a part of starting the Palencia and Friends Classic, benefiting The First Tee of North Florida, scheduled for Jan. 16, 2017 at Palencia Golf Club in St. Augustine. He is also planning other events of regional and national scope.
