International tour operator Golfbreaks.com sends a Quad Cities attorney and three of his golfing friends on a trip of a lifetime to the game’s birthplace.
CHARLESTON, SC (November 2016) – At the time, Brent Haydon didn’t give much thought to the on-line sweepstakes he entered that was sponsored by international golf tour operator Golfbreaks.com.
That changed when the in-house attorney from East Moline, Ill. – one of the Quad Cities, where the PGA Tour annually plays its John Deere Classic – learned Golfbreaks.com had selected him for an eight-day dream golf trip to the East and West coasts of Scotland.
Haydon invited three of his good … and lucky … golfing buddies – two from his home course, Short Hills Country Club, along with one of his best friends from high school days.
All four are accomplished amateur players. But none had ever visited the Birthplace of the Game.

The quartet spent its first three nights in St. Andrews, where they stayed at the Fairmont St. Andrews and played the resort’s two outstanding courses, along with world-renowned Kingsbarns and regular Open Championship host Carnoustie. Then it was off to Gleneagles, a 5-star luxury hotel that played host to the 2014 Ryder Cup on one of its three layouts. After a couple of nights at Gleneagles, the group moved to Turnberry Lodges on the stunning Ayrshire coast, then back through St. Andrews before returning to the U.S.
“We had a great time,” Haydon said. “We played some really awesome golf courses.”
“The entire trip was spectacular,” he said. “It rained less than expected, so we had some really nice days to play. We wore shorts most of the time.”
Haydon, who had never taken a strictly golf-related trip, said working with a tour operator such as Golfbreaks.com was something he would highly recommend.
