Glen Allen, VA. – Heritage Golf Group, a boutique owner and operator of premier private, resort and daily fee golf properties across the U.S., is proud to announce that The Dominion Club hosted their first annual Golf Tournament on Sunday, September 11, 2016 benefitting Birdies for the Brave®. The Club helped raised over $5,000 to support our troops. All proceeds from the event will benefit PGA TOUR Charities, Inc.’s Birdies for the Brave, a national military outreach initiative dedicated to raising funds and awareness for military Homefront charities that provide critical services to meet the specialized needs of military members, wounded veterans and their families.
The inaugural event kicked off with registration and a patriotic opening ceremony including the National Anthem sung by Tracy Wellborn and the pledge of Allegiance. The golf tournament began with a shotgun start for 100 golfers at 9:00am. Contests were held on holes #9 and #11 in remembrance of the 15th anniversary of 9/11. Following the tournament, participants enjoyed Hors d’oeuvres and the afternoon concluded with an awards ceremony, continued fellowship, and an all-American cookout.
“Our event was extremely successful and we are proud to have the opportunity to support our military and build this event into one of the strongest in the community,” said Sean McClaren, general manager of The Dominion Club. “I would also like to personally thank our community for the outpouring of support this year.”
Proceeds from the events benefitted Birdies for the Brave military Homefront groups that are supported by PGA TOUR players, including Special Operations Warrior Foundation, Homes for Our Troops, Naval SEAL Foundation, Operation Homefront, Military Warriors Support Foundation, Green Beret Foundation, United Through Reading, K9s For Warriors, Feherty’s Troops First Foundation, Operation Shower, and Disabled Sports USA.
Birdies for the Brave homefront Groups provide much-needed support to members of the United States Armed Forces and their families and is a primary element of Heritage Golf Group’s philanthropic endeavors. Since 2008, Heritage Golf Group has raised over $3 million for Birdies for the Brave Homefront groups. ABOUT BIRDIES FOR THE BRAVE®
Named by the White House among the top 20 charities in the U.S. that support military families, Birdies for the Brave is a national military outreach initiative proudly supported by the PGA TOUR, which is dedicated to honoring and showing appreciation to the courageous members of our U.S. Armed Forces and their families. Birdies for the Brave was created in 2006 by PGA TOUR player Phil Mickelson, whose father was a Navy fighter pilot, and his wife, Amy, to support combat-wounded veterans. The PGA TOUR subsequently adopted Birdies for the Brave and expanded it to include a wide spectrum of military outreach initiatives during PGA TOUR tournaments, as well as a series of fundraising events at TPCs and partner clubs across the U.S. – an effort that has raised more than $15 million for military homefront charities that provide critical programs and services to meet the specialized needs of wounded heroes and military families.
