(Jacksonville, FL) – At this week’s PGA TOUR stop in Mayakoba, Mexico, tour player, Russell Knox, has pledged what will hopefully be a significant amount based on his performance. Knox has pledged $250 for each birdie he makes during the OHL Classic, as well as $500 for each eagle and $1,000 for a hole in one.
Adding to the enthusiasm, Knox was the runner up in Mayakoba last season, falling to Graeme McDowell in a playoff. Knox is the 19th ranked player in the world and 21st in the FedEx Cup rankings. His stroke average is a 69.74, which means he could make a lot of birdies. In fact, he averages 4.75 birdies per round, which could be a modest windfall to those who are helped by Jacksonville’s Child Cancer Fund.
Originally from Scotland, Knox now resides in Jacksonville Beach, FL. “I was introduced to the Child Cancer Fund two years ago while playing in a charity event to support their cause,” said Knox. He continued, “I have since fallen in love with their mission, and, frankly, the kids I have met through being involved. These kids and their families are heroes, and I know that every nickel counts for them. I am just one of many people doing my part to support them.”
Based in Jacksonville (FL), The CHILD Cancer Fund is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to assisting children and their families through the challenges of a childhood cancer diagnosis and treatment. The non-profit organization was established in 1994 by a group of Jacksonville parents whose children were receiving treatment for cancer at Wolfson Children’s Hospital and Nemours Children’s Specialty Care. This organization raises funds to provide Nemours Children’s Specialty Care with a financial grant to secure the position of a Child Life Specialist and to provide financial assistance to the parents of children battling cancer. Today, the agency is committed to walking side by side with children and their families every step of the way.
