Bobby Jones Golf Course and Smoke Rise Country Club join Mosaic Management family
Alpharetta, GA. (November 7, 2016) – Two Atlanta-area golf courses have chosen Mosaic Clubs & Resorts as their new management firm: Bobby Jones Golf Course in Buckhead and Smoke Rise Country Club in Stone Mountain.
The Bobby Jones Golf Course Foundation has selected Mosaic Clubs and Resorts to manage the Bobby Jones Golf Course, Atlanta’s first public facility. Constructed in 1932 as a tribute to one of Atlanta’s most famous athletes of the time, Robert Tyre “Bobby” Jones Jr., the course was built in response to the overwhelming interest in the game following Jones’ success. It also provided additional recreational facilities to serve Atlanta’s growing middle-class population as it grew to the north.
For more than 80 years, the Bobby Jones course has served generations of Atlanta golfers, remaining one of the busiest golf courses in the state. The Foundation plans millions of dollars of improvements to Bobby Jones in the next few years, including a new Bob Cupp-designed golf course.
“The decision to partner with Mosaic was an easy one for the Foundation,” said Marty Elgison, president of the Bobby Jones Golf Course Foundation. “The company’s ability to provide turnkey management services and its reputation for excellence were key factors, but equally important were the passion and excitement they have for the project and for Mr. Jones’ legacy. We know the course will be in good hands as we prepare for the renovation.”
Separately, the Board of Directors of Smoke Rise Country Club in Stone Mountain, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, has engaged Mosaic to manage its private club. Opened in 1996, Smoke Rise members enjoy a first-rate 30,000-square-foot clubhouse, full-service catering and banquet facilities, a junior Olympic-sized swimming facility, world-class clay and hard tennis courts, and a fitness center. Smoke Rise recently invested more than $5 million in its aquatic, tennis and fitness center amenities. Smoke Rise’s newly renovated hillside clubhouse offers dining, banquet and meeting facilities and serves as the social center for the country club. It offers year-round social events for members as well.
“Over the past 15 years, we have been blessed to manage or own more than 20 golf properties in the Atlanta area,” said Whitney Crouse, Mosaic founding partner and chairman. “None is as important to the City of Atlanta as the course named after Mr. Jones. Being part of its renovation and working for some of Atlanta’s most dedicated golfers and citizens is very exciting for us. Add our engagement at a great club like Smoke Rise and we are thankful for the two wonderful additions to the Mosaic family of clubs.”
