PHOENIX (Nov. 17, 2016) – PING announced today that renowned golf coach Chris Como has joined the company as an engineering consultant. In his new role, Como will work with PING’s team of engineers and researchers who are responsible for designing and developing the company’s high-performance products and advancing its industry-leading fitting technologies and methods.
The 39-year-old Como is based in Dallas, but he began his teaching career in Westlake Village in Southern California nearly 20 years ago. In 2014, he was named one of Golf Digest’s “Best Teachers Under 40” before joining the magazine’s exclusive “50 Best Teachers in America” list the following year. He earned his way onto Golf Magazine’s “Top 100 Teachers” list in 2014 (the youngest instructor honored). He has performed extensive research in golf-swing biomechanics and currently coaches several PGA Tour professionals.
“As an engineering-driven company, we’re excited to work with Chris and begin leveraging his extensive knowledge of the golf swing,” said John K. Solheim, PING Executive Vice President. “His valuable experience as a golf coach combined with his inquisitive approach and deep knowledge of science will help us advance both product and fitting technology. He’s highly respected in the teaching community for his methods, especially his ability to merge real-world problem solving with the advanced data available to us today through launch monitors and other technologies.”
The agreement was finalized recently during a visit to PING’s Phoenix headquarters, where Como toured the campus and spent time in the company’s ENSO room, a 3D motion-capture lab used primarily for swing analysis and custom-fitting research.
“I’ve always had great respect for PING’s scientific approach to product development and custom fitting,” said Como, who hosts The Open Forum during PGA Show week in Orlando, which gathers golf coaches and others doing research in golf instruction. “They are leaders in technology and are committed to innovation in all they do. With PING’s unequalled research and knowledge library gathered over the last five decades, I see this as a tremendous opportunity to grow my expertise while contributing to their primary goal of helping golfers play better. We know the best ways to help golfers are through high-performing, custom-fit product and expert instruction. I look forward to collaborating with their highly skilled engineering and research teams. It’s going to be fun to see how we can continue to advance PING’s reputation as an industry leader.”
