Georgia State Parks operates eight golf courses across the state and this fall, two open houses were held to invite the Media, businesses, VIPs, people who maybe don’t know about these great golf courses to come and enjoy of day of great food, great golf and a lot of fun. In October the first one was held at The Creek at Hard Labor Creek State Park near Madison Georgia. The second one was held at Arrowhead Pointe Golf Course in Elberton Georgia at The Richard B. Russell State Park
The Creek at Hard Labor, located in Social Circle, offers 18-holes of golf on a rolling course complete with pristine fairways and challenging, yet fun, obstacles like creeks to play around.
On Thursday, Oct. 27, the course opened its doors to over 60 players during an open house.
The day’s activities included lunch provided by Sweet Mama’s, located in Bostwick, which fed golfers and media homemade favorites.
A raffle was held to thank those who came out to enjoy a day of golfing, fun and good food, with winners receiving items like Bridgestone golf balls, Georgia State Parks hats and backpacks, and shirts provided in honor of legendary golfer, Bobby Jones.
Karl Gross, the PGA Golf Course Professional commented,
“There are so many wonderful things, not only the course, but Hard Labor has to offer and they wouldn’t be possible without all of the people working each day to show the public our great facilities.”
“The course was in great shape, the lunch and prizes were terrific! Thanks to the staff for a great day” said Johnny Rodgers one of the people who participated during the day.
The Creek at Hard Labor also offers a quiet day of playing with the course being out of ear-shot of any vehicles on the road, and the most noise heard during the day’s game was the sound of golfers celebrating putts or perfect drives. The clubhouse offers a new addition, a conference and reception room that can be rented for $150 and hold around 80 guests for work, play or both.
“We are working to tell corporate groups about these Hidden Gems across the state and get them here to enjoy a round or two of golf while being able to conduct business meetings,” Doug Hollandsworth Founder of The Georgia Golf Trail that The Creek is apart of stated. “One of the many things that makes this course different from some of the others is the ability to stay overnight in one of the cottages at the park, it makes for a wonderful, one-of-a-kind, experience,” Hollandsworth said. “Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites offers so much more than just pristine golf courses.”
For those interested in canyon climbing, walking their dogs or geo-caching, Hard Labor Creek offers these activities as clubs that are available for membership throughout the year.
