ORLANDO, Fla. (Dec. 2, 2016) – Accomplished instructor and player Ron Philo Jr., recognized by Golf Digest magazine as the “Best Teacher” in the state of Vermont for 2015-’16, is scheduled to appear as a guest instructor on Golf Channel’s Morning Drive December 6 and 7.
The popular daily morning show airs from 7-9 a.m. Eastern.
Philo, Director of Golf & Club Operations for the Golf Channel Academy at Stowe Mountain Resort in Stowe, Vt., is one of the inaugural coaches in Golf Channel Academy (GCA), a dedicated network of teaching facilities. Select Golf Channel Academy coaches are being invited to appear on the network’s news and instruction shows, including The Golf Fix and School of Golf; Philo is making his first appearance on Morning Drive.
“It’s an honor to be a guest on Morning Drive,” said Philo, the 2010 New England Section PGA Teacher of the Year. “It’s been a great experience to be a part of the Golf Channel Academy network of coaches and I look forward to sharing some of my favorite tips and playing lessons with the viewers at home.”
Philo comes from a lineage of talented PGA teaching professionals and golfers. His father, Ron Sr., has been a PGA member for 40 years and continues to teach at Stowe Mountain Resort through the summer months. His uncle, Dave, and grandfather also were PGA professionals. Dave competed in two PGA Championships and on the PGA TOUR Champions, as well. Sister Laura Diaz won two LPGA titles in 2002 and competed in four Solheim Cups for the United States.
The younger Philo captured the 2006 PGA Professional National Championship and has also competed in more than a dozen events on the PGA Tour, and in eight major championships. With sister, Laura, on his bag, he made the cut at the 2005 PGA Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club in New Jersey. Philo is a five-time PGA Section Player of the Year and four-time PGA Section champion.
As a Golf Channel Academy coach, Philo continues to teach the way he knows best. The underlying philosophy of Golf Channel Academy is that the best golf “teaching” is done through “coaching” – that is, an on-going relationship between player and teacher devoted to long-lasting improvement.
