NGCOA Course Of The Year Finalists Announced

December 13, 2016

(Charleston, SC) – Four golf courses from across the nation have been selected because of both their service and excellence as the National Golf Course Owners Association’s finalists for National Course of the Year.

The Pete Dye Course at French Lick Resort (Indiana), Canoe Brook Country Club (New Jersey), Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Club (Florida) and Poppy Hills Golf Course (California) round out the final four for this prestigious honor.

The National Course of the Year Award honors a member demonstrating four criteria: exceptional quality of the course, exceptional quality of ownership and management, outstanding contribution to its community and significant contribution to the game. The Course of the Year Award winners come from the NGCOA’s core membership, which make an outstanding contribution to the sport in their markets and are model operations to their peers.

The honor has been awarded every year since 2003. Last year, Forest Dunes of Roscommon, Michigan, took home the coveted achievement.

The Pete Dye Course at French Lick has become both a showcase venue in Indiana and a major economic driver providing stability in the financially struggling Orange County.

Elsewhere, Canoe Brook Country Club-which completed a three-year, award-winning renovation projection in 2016-makes frequent contributions to foundations and programs including Folds of Honor and Bunkers for Baghdad, while also hosting an annual outing for local police departments.

Meanwhile, the Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Club and Sports Complex unites the public and private sectors to promote values, academics and social skills for at-risk children, doing so by using the golf course as a living classroom.

Finally, Poppy Hills Golf Course-which has hosted the PGA Tour’s First Tee Open since completing its own award-winning renovation in 2013-is a leader in both water stewardship practices and youth-targeted philanthropic endeavors.

All finalists will be recognized during an awards ceremony at the 2017 Golf Business Conference in Orlando, Florida, February 7-9. The winner will be announced at the Celebration Dinner on Thursday, February 9.
