Kapalua, Hawaii (January 9, 2017) – Kapalua Golf continued its commitment to giving back to the local community by donating playing spots in the PGA TOUR’s SBS Tournament of Champions Wednesday Pro Am to the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association. The spots were then purchased by an HSJGA supporter that resulted in $10,000 raised for the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association.
“We are thrilled to support junior golf in Hawaii,” said Alex Nakajima, general manager, Kapalua Golf and Tennis.
“As the host venue for the SBS Tournament of Champions, we received a number of playing spots in the Wednesday Pro Am. Through good fortune, we were able to donate these spots to the Junior Golf Association and in turn, help them raise $10,000.”
“The purpose of the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association is to develop leaders and great kids through golf,” said Matt Rollins, executive director, Hawaii State Junior Golf Association. “A gracious donation like this, is how we’re able to keep junior golf opportunities so affordable throughout Hawaii. There are so many great supporters in the state and we are so grateful to Kapalua Golf and the SBS Tournament of Champions for thinking of our association. These funds will directly benefit junior golfers in Hawaii.”
In totality, the 2016 event at Kapalua raised more than $350,000 for Maui charities. Since the tournament came to Maui in 1999, the event and host organizations have donated a total of more than $5.6 million to Hawai?i community charities.
