There’s more than one pink golf ball being talked about on the world’s professional tours. Volvik staff player Pornanong Phatlum made sure of that when she finished T5th at the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic, shooting 21 under par with her pink S3 golf ball.
She had 6 birdies and no bogies in the extremely windy final round to shoot a 67 for the day. She ranked 5th in GIR for the event with a percentage of 81.94% greens reached in regulation.
Phatlum earned $52,350 with the Top 5 finish, her 13th top 5 finish with a pink Volvik golf ball since she switched to Volvik. She also has earned four LPGA Tour runner-up finishes with Volvik golf balls. She ranked 5th in driving accuracy on the 2016 LPGA Tour, a trait that the S3 golf ball has become well known for with golfers.
Five Volvik staff players were in the field at the Bahamas event. Volvik staffer Ilhee Lee finished in the Top 25. She won the inaugural Puke Silk event in 2013 with a yellow Volvik golf ball, giving Volvik their first LPGA Tour at the time.
Phatlum competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics and finished T25th for her home country of Thailand. She was the first ever golfer to play a color golf ball at the Olympics, putting herself and Volvik in the history books.
The 26-year-old from Chaiyaphum, Thailand is the 44th ranked player in the world and finished 29th in the LPGA Tour’s 2016 Race to the CME Glove standings.
In addition to winning the Thailand LPGA Masters in each of the last three years, Phatlum set a Ladies Asian Golf Tour record as the first player to win five times – Hong Kong Open (2006), Women’s India Open (2008, 2009 and 2012) and Thailand Ladies Open (2008). She also won the LPGA Tour’s Brazil Cup in 2012, an unofficial money event.
