On March 10, 2017, The Junior Champions Foundation (JCF), presented by the International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) will hold its inaugural Lowcountry Junior Golf Tournament, hosted by Wexford Plantation, and benefitting the Wexford Foundation, Long Cove Foundation and the Junior Champions Foundation.

Hosted by IJGT, the tournament will offer locals the chance to play golf and interact with International Junior Golf Academy (IJGA), Junior Players Golf Academy and First Tee student-athletes as well as other local junior golfers, making up the field of 54 juniors. One hundred percent of the funds raised from the golf tournament will benefit the three foundations.

The Lowcountry Junior begins Friday, March 10 with an 18-hole Junior-Amateur, with two juniors playing a scramble with two adults, followed by a reception hosted by Andrew Summers at 3 Castlebridge Court. Announcements begin at 12:45 p.m. at the Wexford Plantation golf cart staging area with a 1 p.m. Shotgun start.

Adult participants will have the opportunity to win a grand prize seven-night stay for four at Summers home in Gullane, Scotland, located 10 miles east of Edinburgh in Scotland’s ‘golf heaven’. The village is home to eight links courses, including the exclusive Open Championship course at Muirfield, home of The Honorable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, the oldest golf club in the world, with records dating back to 1744, when the Club wrote the original 13 Rules of Golf. The grand prize includes four, 18-hole rounds for four at Gullane, Archerfield and Renaissance golf courses.

“The participants, donors and partners of The Lowcountry Junior at Wexford Plantation are dedicated to improving young golfers lives through the financial support of their education and training,” JCF’s Chairman Ernst Bruderer said. “We wanted to expand the scope of ways for international junior athletes with limited financial resources to reach their potential through access to U.S. higher education and better athletic training.”

Summers’ involvement is as the owner of International Junior Golf Academy, which recently recruited Jonathan Yarwood, a British PGA Master professional, to be Director of Golf. Yarwood trained a U.S. Open winner, two U.S. Amateur winners, two U.S. Girls’ Winners, three AJGA Players of the Year, four No. 1 juniors, a collegiate No. 1, a winner on six major tours around the world and more. “Yarwood has the strongest resume in junior golf over the last 20 years, having coached elite groups of students at IMG for 10 of those years and will join IJGA in June, with the intention of expanding the golf academy to local residents,” Summers said.

Media are invited to attend, but must have a pass to enter Wexford. Please contact Scott Parker at 912.401.1924 for media access.
