PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (March 16, 2017) – PGA Golf Club – the 54-hole, core facility of the PGA of America – was selected as a recipient of the 2017 Association of Golf Merchandisers (AGM) Platinum Award. The award was presented to PGA Golf Club officials at the AGM Annual Retail Conference in Orlando. It spotlights clubs and facilities with the most creative and innovative retail accomplishments, and successful initiatives that enhanced customer relationships and experiences.
To be considered for the award, courses were invited to submit golf shop nominations. Entries were then judged by an impartial panel on various categories, including creative ideas, revenue-generating initiatives, promotions and visual displays.
“We are elated to receive this prestigious honor from the AGM for the second consecutive year,” says Jimmy Terry, PGA Golf Club General Manager. “Our team knows the customer experience begins and, on many occasions, ends in the golf shop. We strive to make their time in our shop both comforting and memorable.”
Owned and operated by the PGA of America, PGA Golf Club’s golf shop was a major focal point of the recent expansion and renovation of its 20,000-square-foot clubhouse. Stocked with apparel for men, women and juniors from major manufacturers, the golf shop offers accessories, gift items and resort wear emblazoned with the PGA Golf Club logo. Innovative props (display enhancers) and lighting ensure merchandise is visually appealing.
The AGM is an international, professional association of golf-related merchandisers and vendors. Members include golf professionals, buyers, merchandisers, students, club managers, owners and suppliers to the golf industry. Headquartered in Arizona, the AGM is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation founded in 1989 and governed by a 19-member volunteer Board of Directors.
In addition to PGA Golf Club, other notable clubs and facilities bestowed the 2017 AGM Platinum Award include: Whistling Straits Golf Club (2020 Ryder Cup host site); Erin Hills Golf Club (2017 U.S. Open host site), Bandon Dunes Golf Resort and Pinehurst Resort.
Through April 2, the Ryder Cup Trophy is on display inside the clubhouse. Additionally, notable trophies and artifacts tracing its nearly 100 years can be found in the “PGA Gallery” area of the clubhouse. A showcase of the major championship trophies of golf includes the PGA Championship’s original Wanamaker Trophy, the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship’s Alfred S. Bourne Trophy and the Vardon Trophy, with its iconic overlapped hands sculpture.
