PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FLORIDA, USA (March 29, 2017) Professional golfer Jeff Klauk and Perfect Golf Event will hold the first Athletes vs. Epilepsy $1 Million Shootout (AthletesVsEpilepsyGolf.com) on Monday, April 10 – the day after the completion of the Masters Tournament – at The Palencia Club near St. Augustine, Fla.
The unique format, organized by Perfect Golf Event, includes a course setup of nine regulation holes and nine par 3s, with each par 3 offering $10,000 for a hole in one. The nine players who are closest to the hole on the designated par 3s will qualify for a day-ending shootout where a hole in one earns $1 million. The payout includes $500,000 to the winning individual and $500,000 for the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida and Athletes vs. Epilepsy. If there is no hole in one in the shootout, the player closest to the hole wins $1,000.
The event is near capacity, with an entry fee of $400 per person, with teams assembled in fivesomes. There will also be a putting contest where if someone makes a 50-foot putt in the finale the prize is 2018 Masters Tournament badges. Auction items include a pink Ping driver signed by two-time Masters winner Bubba Watson, a round of golf for four at TPC Sawgrass with a notable PGA Tour player and a 2016 Rio Olympics flag signed by golf gold medalist Justin Rose, silver medalist Henrik Stenson and bronze medalist Matt Kuchar.
A group of professional golfers and athletes from other sports are expected to participate as designated hitters on select par 3s. They include former Jacksonville Jaguars place-kicker Josh Scobee, former Jaxson de Ville mascot Curtis Dvorak, professional golfers Klauk, Blaine McCallister, Len Mattiace and Aron Price and former PGA Tour Commissioner Deane Beman, who will play as a part of a team. Ponte Vedra Beach’s Justin James, a World Long Drive Championship participant, will hit drives for teams on a designated par 5.
“Raising awareness and funding for epilepsy research is my passion,” Klauk said. “My life was changed by this disease, which affects 3 million Americans and 65 million people worldwide. Funding from government sources is much less than other diseases, so Perfect Golf Event is a great resource for organizing this event and other tournaments to raise money for causes close to people’s hearts.”
Klauk, 39, joined Perfect Golf Event in 2016 as the Manager of Tournaments and Events for the new digital platform designed for charitable and sponsored golf tournament organizers, enabling them to raise more money for their causes. Perfect Golf Event’s headquarters are located in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

Klauk won twice in his professional career, at the 2003 Preferred Health Systems Wichita (Kan.) Open and the 2008 Melwood Prince George’s County (Md.) Open on the Web.com Tour. He played four seasons on the PGA Tour, beginning in 2009 when he earned three fourth-place finishes and more than $1.2 million during his rookie season. He finished a career-best solo fourth at The Honda Classic that season. Additionally, Klauk was the 2000 NCAA Division II Championship medalist at Florida Southern, thereby earning the Arnold Palmer Award, and also played on the United States Palmer Cup team that summer in England – both named in honor of the late golf legend.
Klauk’s playing career was derailed by health issues. In April 2012, he underwent brain surgery at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta to deal with the effects of epileptic seizures he first experienced in 2006. He played eight tournaments on the Web.com Tour in 2015.
Klauk grew up in Ponte Vedra Beach, where his father, Fred, was the longtime superintendent at TPC Sawgrass. Klauk and his family reside in nearby St. Augustine at Palencia, a master-planned community with an Arthur Hills-designed golf course. Palencia is located off of U.S. 1 just north of St. Augustine and sits just west of the Intracoastal Waterway (605 Palencia Club Dr., St. Augustine, Fla. 32095).
