18Birdies Launches DreamGames To Gamify Golf And National TV Spot

Innovative digital campaign brings unique gamification element to golf

OAKLAND, Calif., May 3, 2017 – Mobile golf technology startup, 18Birdies, today announced the launch of its DreamGames rewards program, supported by its national TV commercial, which will run on the Golf Channel. The digitally focused rewards program combines true gamification with golf by rewarding players for doing what they love – playing golf. The TV spot features social media influencer and professional golfer, Paige Spiranac, along with PGA Tour players, Willy Wilcox and Harold Varner III, who have all been signed on as brand ambassadors.

“Bringing gamification to golf is a great way to grow the game,” said 18Birdies Founder and CEO, Eddy Lui. “Our team has created a unique and interactive in-app experience that will get people excited about playing the game more.”

By simply playing rounds, side games or completing post-round course ratings within the app, users earn virtual currency, deemed Golf Bucks, which can be used to obtain digital scratch cards that give them a chance to win one of thousands of monthly prizes including clubs, balls and cash prizes. In addition, every scratch card redeemed gives users an entry to win 1 of 12 spots in the 2018 Arnold Palmer Invitational Wednesday Pro-Am to play alongside a top PGA Tour player. The more golf a user plays, the more Golf Bucks they earn, giving them more chances to win and incentive to play more.

The national TV commercial, a first for both 18Birdies as well as Paige, Willy and Harold, was produced in-house, continuing the trend of brands becoming their own content creators. The spot has a futuristic tone which embodies the advanced mobile technology that the 18Birdies app offers and will run during the Morning Drive show and the Golf Channel’s live coverage of The Players Championship and U.S. Open.
