LONG ISLAND, New York (May 8, 2017) – The Muttontown Club has named Jefferson May, PGA, as the club’s new Director of Golf/Head Golf Professional. May will lead the golf course operations at the prestigious Long Island private club.
May was recently appointed to The Muttontown Club position after spending the past five years as The Meadow Brook Club’s First Assistant Golf Professional. A graduate of Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, May holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications with a concentration on Marketing and Public Relations. While at Marist College, May received an athletic scholarship on the baseball team, played in three NCAA tournaments and signed with the Houston Astros professional baseball organization.
After baseball, May discovered golf and remarkably became a golf professional just over one year after taking up the game. His past experience includes working for Timber Point Golf Course as Director of Instruction, and as a First Assistant Golf Professional for Tam O’Shanter Country Club, Bear Lakes Country Club, Sands Point Golf Club and the aforementioned Meadow Brook Club. May has also served a winter instructor at The John Ondrush Golf & Fitness Academy.
Career highlights include a course record 64 at Sands Point Golf Club, multiple top 10 finishes on the Metropolitan Assistants Tour, and having competed in all the major Metropolitan golf events. He is also active on the business-side of golf, serving on the MET PGA Assistants Association Tournament Committee, Communications Committee, and as a PGA Mentor.
May’s wife, Jennifer, is a Senior Business Analyst in the Mergers and Acquisitions Department for CA Technologies. The couple have a daughter, Camryn, and newborn son, Ryan. They are excited to be a part of The Muttontown Club family and the Troon Golf Experience.
“We feel very fortunate to welcome Jefferson May as our new Director of Golf/Head Golf Professional,” said The Muttontown Club President Robert Sherman. “He brings a wealth of experience, and we are confident that his expertise will positively impact the golfing experience our members have here at The Muttontown Club.”
The Muttontown Club’s 18-hole, Alfred H. Tull-designed golf course stretches over 6,500 yards, and features intricate greens and a double-sided driving range. With plenty of opportunity for competitive and casual play for men and women alike, the golf course is impeccably maintained. Other amenities include an engaging social calendar, and a tennis and free-form pool complex with kiddie playground. Although it is typical for clubs in the area to close (or substantially restrict services) over the winter, The Muttontown Club is open 12 months of the year, provides high quality dining at fair prices, and has an indoor golf simulator for year-round enjoyment. In yet another way to distinguish The Muttontown Club in the marketplace and provide value to its membership, the children (and their spouses), grandchildren, parents, and grandparents of a Regular Member (those with full privileges) are welcome to golf, dine and otherwise enjoy the club.
The Muttontown Club is managed by Troon Privé, the private club division of Troon Golf. Members at Troon Privé managed clubs enjoy reciprocal play at over 200 private clubs around the world, as well as preferred rates at Troon Golf-managed daily fee and resort facilities.
