(MORGANTOWN, W.V.) – Pikewood National Golf Club – dedicated to preserving the time-honored traditions of the game by providing a pure golf experience – debuts at No. 32 on Golfweek’s 2017 “Best Modern List.”
Opened in 2009, Pikewood National has garnered praise and recognition from experts throughout the industry for its challenging yet fair layout. Placement in Golfweek’s “Best Modern List” further validates the achievement of designers Bob Gwynne and John Raese.

Golfweek’s ranking panel consists of 675 voters from seven countries. Raters focus on 10 criteria when surveying a course including overall land plan, variety and memorability of the course, conditioning and ecology, as well as the “walk in the park test,” which documents a course’s worthiness of time spent traversing the property. Golfweek’s rankings include private, resort, and public courses.
Pikewood National was constructed with the intent of transforming the terrain into a remarkable test of golf, while emphasizing the abundance of natural beauty that surrounds the property. Committed to offering an authentic experience, Pikewood National is a walking only club with dramatic views, natural waterfalls, and majestic rock outcroppings lining many areas of the course.
The par-72 design can play anywhere from 6,450 to 7,600 yards. Many of Pikewood National’s holes would be considered “signature holes” on almost any golf course. Some examples include the par-3, 5th – featuring a natural waterfall behind the green – and the par-5, 8th – dubbed “Audacity” – a 561 yard “Cape Hole” with a deep gorge guarding the right side of the fairway.
