French Lick, IN – French Lick Resort, the premier golf destination located in southern Indiana, has had its two acclaimed golf courses, The Pete Dye Course and The Donald Ross Course selected among Golf Digest’s list of America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses. The Dye course was ranked No. 19 and the Ross course was No. 88 respectively.
The publication’s biennial review of America’s top public courses appears in the June 2017 issue. Golf Digest used nearly 1,000 low-handicap male and female golfers on its Course Ranking Panel and asked each to submit ballots based on seven criteria including shot values, resistance to scoring, design variety, memorability, aesthetics, conditioning and ambience.

In addition to being selected among America’s top public courses, The Pete Dye Course, along with the Donald Ross Course are also ranked No. 3, and No. 6 among the Golf Digest Best in State in Indiana. The resort destination is also one of Golf Digest’s Best Resort’s in the America’s.
French Lick Resort has done a brilliant job bridging historic classic golf (Donald Ross) with modern day golf (Pete Dye), which is the only resort in the world to offer courses by these two famed architects.
The Pete Dye Course, recipient of the 2017 National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA) Golf Course of the Year, is regarded as one of the most breathtaking and challenging golf courses in the country. The course was strategically carved on a dramatic hilltop offering a variety of elevation changes, rugged and dramatic terrain, narrow fairways and challenging bunkers. There are spectacular views from every hole, some that stretch for over 40 miles overlooking the Hoosier National Forest.
Complementing the Pete Dye Course is the historic Donald Ross Course, which underwent a $4.6 million restoration that brought the course back to Ross’s original plans. The course brings a rich history to the French Lick Resort being the site of the 1924 PGA Championship won by the legendary Walter Hagen as well as well as hosting other golf greats and celebrities such as Gene Sarazen and Bing Crosby. The parkland gem meanders up and down the rolling hills taking full advantage of the many elevation points for classic Ross green sites, which are sloped heavily from back to front. It is considered one of his more challenging designs.
French Lick Resort and The Pete Dye Course has become a popular venue for championships including the host course this year for the first ever senior women’s major, The Senior LPGA Championship presented by Old National Bank.
Other major events have included the 2010 PGA of America’s Professionals National Championship, the Big Ten Men’s and Women’s Championships in 2012, 2013, 2014, Indiana Open in 2012, the LPGA Legends Championships in 2013, 2014, and the 2015 Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid.
