Boyne Resorts flagship property moves up eleven spots among the top courses in America
Petoskey, MI – Bay Harbor Golf Club, the flagship property for Boyne Resorts, one of largest golf and resort companies in North America, has once again been selected among Golf Digest’s 100 Greatest Public Courses. The scenic Links/Quarry layout moved up eleven places to No. 73 in the most recent rankings.
The publication’s biennial review of America’s top public courses appears in the June 2017 issue. Golf Digest used over 1,100 members of its Course Ranking Panel and asked each to submit ballots based on seven criteria including shot values, resistance to scoring, design variety, memorability, aesthetics, conditioning and ambience.
“We are very thrilled to not only be recognized by Golf Digest as one of the top public courses in America, but also to make a significant move up in our rankings,” said Bernie Friedrich, Senior Vice President of Golf Operations for Boyne Resorts. “We have worked hard in recent years to improve upon all of our golf courses playability, aesthetics, and conditioning, and this improved ranking for Bay Harbor is a testament to the changes we have made to make our courses more fun for our guests.”
Several improvements have been made in recent years to all three of the courses; including tree removal, which opened up site lines and exposed native areas; repositioning of tee-boxes forward to improve upon playability; and maintenance practices. Each area of improvement contributed to better scores during the rating process.
Bay Harbor Golf Club features 27-holes designed by Arthur Hills, which plays as three different course combinations (Links/Quarry, Quarry/Preserve, Preserve/Links). The Links/Quarry course combines holes routed along a plateau overlooking Lake Michigan with rugged golf holes that meander in and out of an old limestone quarry finishing right along the shoreline.
