Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course best in Hill Country; Par-3 16th named state’s ‘Best’ and ‘Most Beautiful’ golf hole
(BOERNE, Texas) – Cordillera Ranch – the premier luxury community in the scenic Texas Hill Country – announces its Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course ascended to No. 6 in the Dallas Morning News Texas Golf’s 2017 ranking of the state’s best layouts.
The one-spot jump makes Cordillera Ranch the top course in the Hill Country / San Antonio / Austin region. Since opening in 2007, Cordillera Ranch has been annually rated among the top seven layouts in the Lone Star State.
Its par-3 16th hole also was listed among the state’s “Best” and “Most Beautiful” golf holes. Playing 172 yards from the championship tees (131 yards from the member’s tees), it features a limestone gorge with natural waterfalls fronting a small putting surface carved out of a hill. Bunkers front and back protect the green.
Nearly 100 panelists from across Texas – PGA professionals, high-ranking amateurs, golf-design experts, golf journalists and other industry luminaries – evaluated all 800-plus courses using criteria such as shotmaking, versatility, design, memorability, beauty, maintenance and enjoyment.
“The Dallas Morning News rankings have been long considered the most comprehensive on the Texas golf scene,” says Marc DeWall, Director of Golf at Cordillera Ranch. “Our standing is a testament to the entire golf experience at Cordillera Ranch and reflects our team’s unwavering dedication for getting it right.”
Set on pristine land in the Texas Hill Country, the Cordillera Ranch layout meanders through valleys and oak-covered terrain. Many holes offer views of the Guadalupe River Valley and feature strategic bunkering, craggy limestone canyons and thought-provoking risk-reward shots.
The top-six showing in the Morning News rankings is the latest accolade for the Nicklaus Signature layout. A year ago, PRIME Living Magazine tabbed Cordillera Ranch the best golf course in Texas.
Also in 2016, the club completed a bunker update on the golf course. More than 1,950 tons of sand were removed from its 82 bunkers. The Better Billy Bunker Method – which uses a two-inch gravel drainage layer over a polymer-sprayed subgrade to bind the gravel together – was then installed. Finally, special “Bunker White” sand was imported from California and added to 100,000-plus square feet of newly-treated bunkers.
Situated 30 minutes northwest of San Antonio, Cordillera Ranch boasts 0.25-acre villas, one- to 10-plus acre estates, including valley-view, golf course and Guadalupe River frontage, as well as hilltop home sites. Cordillera Ranch’s seven on-site, resort-style amenity clubs – Golf, Tennis and Swim, Spa and Athletic, Social, Rod and Gun, Equestrian and River – are all available under one membership. This trailblazing model continues to attract a wide array of buyers from throughout Texas and the U.S.
Community honors continue to roll in as well, as Where to Retire Magazine named Cordillera Ranch one of the “50 Best Master-Planned Communities in the U.S.,” and San Antonio Magazine tabbed it one of the best neighborhoods in the area.
